Project Intro

The Sallie Mae® mobile app Make and manage your Sallie Mae student loan payments from your iPhone®, Android™ phone, or Apple Watch®. With the Sallie Mae mobile app, you can make and manage your student loan payments at your convenience.

Project Goal

The goal of this project is to create a product that is both functional and attractive, and that will appeal to users of all levels of expertise. By taking into account the specific needs of the Target audience, designers can create a product that is both effective and user-friendly.

Problem Statement

  • Poor or dated visual design. Nothing makes a customer say “no thanks” as quickly as a really gruesome home page
  • Slow upload speed
  • Lack of quality images
  • Poor or confusing user journey
  • Low standard of written content
  • Hidden details or no obvious point of contact
  • Badly integrated

Solution

An effective website design should fulfil its intended function by conveying its particular message whilst simultaneously engaging the visitor. Several factors such as consistency, colours, typography, imagery, simplicity, and functionality contribute to good website design.

Current App Issues

Improve chat capabilities: Users want enhancements and reliability with chat functionality.
“Your chat feature didn’t work.”
“Why do you have a chat support service that doesn’t populate? It would be helpful if it worked so I wouldn’t have to call in for simple fixes.”

Getting into app: Users want issues logging into the app resolved.
“Constantly being logged out and told the app needs to be updated.”
“The app always crashes with a ”something went wrong” message.“

Technical glitches: Users want to be reassured their payment is successful and data is secure.
“App crashes after I submit payment every time. Leaves me uneasy if payment went through and question if app is secure.”

Payment education: Users want to be more informed about loan payment nuances.

“More info on how to pay the principal. I keep paying extra but it’s only going toward the next payment.”
“The app is a little confusing of knowing where to click to see how payment was applied to principal and interest.”

Show payoff amount: Users would like more transparency when it comes to paying off their loan(s).
“Display the actual, true full-payoff amount.”
“It would be nice that when someone is paying off a student loan that there could be an option to just pay it off.”

Existing Screens

The overall design of app needs to be both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Visitors will judge how your website looks, after all. However, app design trends change relatively often. This means that if it’s been a few years since you’ve updated your site, it’s likely now outdated. The more outdated it looks, the more unprofessional your brand will appear to be. You need to update your site regularly to adhere to modern app design principles. The following are some of the common issues shared by poor or outdated app designs.

low fiedlity wireframes

Low-fidelity prototypes, for example, are simple and low-tech concepts. All you need to get started is a pen and paper digital art apps. The goal is to turn your ideas into testable artifacts that you can then use to collect and analyze feedback in the early stages.

High fidelity mockups

A high fidelity wireframe captures the look and feel of the product in the advanced stages of the design process. Hi-fi wireframes go beyond the placeholders and ‘lorem ipsum’ text of low-fidelity wireframes to include actual content, typefaces, colors, image dimensions, and branding elements.
